Vinyl Matthew Dear - Preachers's Sigh & Potion Traveling between his adopted Detroit and his hometown of Texas in 2008 and 2009, Matthew amassed a personal, playful, guitar-centric set of recordings he envisioned for his next album. Due to the momentum generated by Asa Breed's hybrid electronic pop that saw him open for Hot Chip and get remixed by Spoon and The Postal Service, he decided to put that work aside. This lost album had a sound, a tumultuous country rodeo in the techno barn, and it had a rough title, a scribble on one of the CD-Rs handed down to the founder of the Ghostly label: Preacher’s Sigh & Potion. It was the first time Matthew had drawn so directly from the influences of his father, a guitarist in the 1960s and 1970s who introduced him to the music of John Prine, Townes Van Zandt and Emmylou Harris. From the sounds of the strings and the tambourine of the first track "Muscle Beach", to the rhythm similar to a metronome of "Hikers Y" with its harshly dismissive mantra, to the dreary carnival ceremony leaving the town of "Gutters and Beyond", Preacher's Sigh & Potion makes the link between pop, rock, country, and the birth of techno. It is a form of tribute to his father who passed on his musical passion to him and which he hopes to pass on to his children. Tracklist: 1. Muscle Beach 2. Sow Down 3. Hikers Y 4. Never Divide 5. All Her Fits 6. Supper Times 7. Crash And Burn 8. Heart To Sing 9. Eye 10. Head 11. Gutters And Beyond
