Cook Eat Repeat - Nigella Lawson
If you can steer yourself past the concept of the banana skin curry then there is so much to enjoy in this book. How To Eat has always been a bit of a classic and this book continues in that vein. For all of her tics that make for good television Lawson is essentially a great cookery writer; dispensing good advice and writing beautifully about the process of cooking and the joy of eating.
The design and production of the book is also a joy; fewer shots of Lawson herself and more shots of beautifully photographed and styled food.
Of the title to the book she writes in the introduction
'Cook, eat, repeat: these words, the day-in, day-out, never-endingness of it all, no doubt sum up the Sisyphean drudgery of cooking for those who resent time spent at the stove. For those who, like me, find structure, meaning and an intense aliveness in the rhythms of the kitchen, they represent an essential liberating truth.'
Among the recipes that I am keen to try out (including the banana skin one) are those for celeriac and anchovy gratin, spice studded rice with crispy shallots, garlic and cashew nuts, pappardelle with cavolo nero and 'nduja and the Scandi cucumber salad.
